Objectives
The objective of the NRBMP is to support the planning and implementation of cooperative regional water resources management and development interventions in the Nile River Basin.
Specific objectives are:
- To provide overarching support to cooperative regional water resources management and development interventions in the Nile Basin
- To set out a set of high level Nile Basin Sustainable Development Targets that will form the basis of a monitoring and evaluation system aimed at ensuring progress towards the “Shared Vision”
- To set out (at the strategic level) the strategic actions and associated targets that should be achieved to ensure the sustainable development of the Nile River Basin
The NRBMP is intended as an overarching strategic plan for the management of the Nile River Basin resources, not just for the NBI, but also for other players in the Nile Basin.
What are the key targets that have to be achieved and how can the countries contribute to the achievement of these targets?
The planning process underlying the NRBMP is shown in blue. Implementation will be through a range of interventions, at the country levels and through investment programmes such as the Nile River Basin Investment Programme (NR-BIP).
