Regional Validation Workshop 

The Regional Validation Workshop Consulting Service for Work Package 3, which focuses on supporting the establishment of flood community awareness and preparedness, is taking place at the Pyramid Hotel in Bishoftu from October 31st to November 1st, 2024.

The consultancy work on Work Package 3 commenced in March 2024. The present regional workshop assesses and validates deliverables of consultancy works which dealt for 17 sites flood management strategies tailored to flood-prone communities, developing a community awareness and preparedness plan and implementation plan. The project is scheduled for completion by December 2024.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱 𝘢𝘳𝘦:-

 (a) to disseminate established site-specific flood community awareness and preparedness strategies and plans 

(b) carefully assess and validate the deliverables of these works by the EN Flood and Drought Risk Mitigation Regional Technical Working Group (F&DRM RTWG). 

 Furthermore, the workshop will create a cooperative platform to jointly engage the three countries in managing riverine flood risks and facilitate the implementation afterwards.   The Participants of the workshop are from the EN Country, Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) , Nile Basin -Flood & Drought (NB-F&D)-Technical Working Group (TWG)  members, Disaster Risk Management Commission City / Town Flood Manager – Gov (district to national)) from each EN Country, NBD Representative, from the World Bank. 

 

 

The following are the expected outputs from the workshop.

  • Improvement areas identified and reports validated by each country on site specific reports on: (a) Flood Management Strategies for Flood Prone Communities (for 17 sites), (b) Community-specific flood action bulletins (for 17 sites), and (c) flood community awareness, preparedness and implementation plans (for 17 sies). 
  • Dissemination of products on the developed flood management strategies, flood Community awareness and preparedness plan, community-specific flood action for sustainability & high usability of the project.
  • Participants’ awareness and joint activities increased on Flood Community Awareness and Preparedness through the workshop.
